Bridge of Life – DaVita Medical MissionsTM announced that it will partner with Gambro, a global medical technology company, during an upcoming Medical Mission to Peru in late spring of this year.
The two-week Medical Mission will help to establish a new dialysis clinic in the city of Chimbote located in the Ancash Region of Peru. Skilled dialysis-trained nurses and biomed technicians from DaVita will serve as volunteers to install 19 refurbished dialysis machines, a new water treatment system, and provide operational training to the medical staff. The dialysis machines, along with dialyzers and other consumables for the first 2400 treatments, will be donated by Gambro.
The Ancash Region is in great need of additional dialysis capacity. There are over 600 people who require dialysis and many cannot afford to pay for ongoing dialysis treatments. Currently, the local clinics have only enough resources to support dialysis for 190 people.
“The need for dialysis in Peru is tremendous,” said Lori Vaclavik, Executive Director of Bridge of Life. “Thanks to the generous contribution from Gambro, many people in Peru with end stage renal disease will get a second chance to live a healthy and productive life. They are a company with a truly humanitarian conscience.”
The newly established dialysis clinic will focus on serving those who do not have the financial resources to afford treatment.
“Gambro is pleased to be able to donate life-saving dialysis equipment to Peru,” said Anne Boardman, Gambro VP of Strategic Accounts. “We are proud to support Bridge of Life and to help advance their mission of bringing dialysis treatments to those in need.”
